FAQs

What does alma mean?

Alma is a word that has always resonated with me. It means nourishing, kind, soul.

Do I have to do a consultation?

In short, yes! Having a consultation prior to being hired ensures we both feel like it is a good fit for you and your family. We will discuss your history, and your hopes for the upcoming birth of your baby. You can ask any questions you may have for me, and I will review in depth what I offer throughout your pregnancy and postpartum.

Will my spouse feel left out?

A doula will not replace your partner. I am there to provide them with ways to help you cope through the birth and offer them a break or extra set of hands when needed. You partner knows the ins and outs of you and can provide love and connection in ways I can’t. I will however provide my knowledge of birthing and ways to cope through birth in ways they cannot. My guidance enables you and your partner to relax, because you have the extra support of my knowledge, my expertise, and training.

What is a birth doula?

A doula is a birth professional who supports you from the moment of hire through birth and the postpartum period. We have knowledge of comfort measures for physical and emotional support, positioning, evidence-based information and advocacy, and can provide you with educational information about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Does having a doula make a difference?

Studies show that those who hire a doula are less likely to need Pitocin, less likely to have a cesarean, less likely to use pain medication, and more likely to see their birth experience in good light!

I only want modest birth photos taken, is that okay?

When signing the contract, you will let me know your preferences for your photos. We will review all of your birth and photo preferences at the prenatal visit and no photos will be shared via my social platforms without your prior consent!

What areas do you serve?

I serve all of Pierce County and parts of Thurston, South King, and Kitsap County. Please contact me if you have specific questions regarding your location.

Can I pay with my FSA/HSA?

Absolutely!

Do you offer payment plans?

Yep, if requested we can certainly work out a payment schedule.
